Latest Vintage Obsession 1940s-1950s Nightgowns and Sleepwear

Lately I have been quit obsessed with nightwear of the by gone eras. I think it might be the fact that I've been home more often I keep on continually getting sick I get rid of one bug and then get the next. But oh well that's what happens when you have a weak immune system. Now back to the topic I enjoy seeing these gowns, bed jackets, and slips I just love the detail they would put into these lovely garments. Now here are some scans I got from a few of the magazines my great aunt gave me.

1949 I really like the green set and pink one to!!

1956 the babydoll nightgowns

1953
1934 Lingerie Styles  I love the back of that gown!!

What do you think?? Would you wear any??

  2. I love them too! Wearing a vintage nightgown right now, actually! :) I really want to make myself a 30's gown in peach satin with lace and what-not. I just bought the vintage teddy pattern from Mrs Depew on etsy and am so excited to make some of those. I think they'd be very comfortable as both sleepwear and underwear, in place of a slip.

  6. I've actually been pretty obsessed with this subject as well lately. Especially around what would be considered "lounge" wear. We have someone staying with us for the next couple of months and I really want to lounge around (as normal) in the evening in my satin gowns and robes but I wonder if that's inappropriate. They cover me, but are they "too much"?

  7. I LOVE the "dressing gowns" of the '30s and '40s! Also the Asian-inspired pajamas of the...was it late '30s? Anyway, I would love to have a pair of those. Nightgowns of those periods are always so glamorous. What's wrong with being classy when you're sleeping, too? :D

  8. I don't remember any member of my family wearing anything but very ordinary cotton nighties! One thing everyone did have was a 'bedjacket' very like this. http://handmadebymother.blogspot.com/2010/05/happy-mothers-day.html

When I was ten, at school in the 1950s we had knitting lessons. Those who were considered good enough could knit something very like this in shape. http://www.besthandknitting.com/vintage-crochet-patterns/women/shrug-/-bolero-/shortie/bed-jacket-bj11/prod_11.html Sadly, I never achieved this pinnacle of knitting success!! They were lovely pink creations, knitted with wonderful thick wooden needles - sigh!
