Lately I have been quit obsessed with nightwear of the by gone eras. I think it might be the fact that I've been home more often I keep on continually getting sick I get rid of one bug and then get the next. But oh well that's what happens when you have a weak immune system. Now back to the topic I enjoy seeing these gowns, bed jackets,and slips I just love the detail they would put into these lovely garments. Junior Styling 1950's

During the post war era the term "teenager" came out. The post war was a consumer boom for teens so there wardrobes had more things than in the 1940s.

1950s teen style

1950s teens (those tops!!)

Teen girls in the fifties wore dress and skirts more than anything in there wardrobe. They were not allowed to wear pant to school or shorts. Although there were those girls that didn't care much for the rules cough cough, *my great aunt*. They were vary strict on how long there dresses were as well my art teacher went to school during the late fifties and was telling me the other day that they would measure there skirt to see how long it was and would make sure it was at least mid knee length couldn't be any shorter. There wardrobe had a variety of things. They wore blouses,cardigans,and sweaters to match there bottom. They also had skirts which were usually plated or a circle skirt to be worn with a petticoat or a fitted skirt a line skirt. They had playsuits,pants,dungarees, and shorts also that they would were also they were mostly used as causal wear to be around the house later in the 50s they wore them a bit more often out of the house though. They undergarments for teens were a slip, maybe petticoat, and shape wear they started to wear it at around 14-15. As for dresses there were so many sundresses,day dresses,evening dress and party dresses. Now shoes were loafers, flats, ballet slippers, saddle shoes, and a low heel. This is pretty much sums up the 50s and there is one last part of this small series but it a surprise I hope you enjoyed part 2.

Today's post is based on the teen style of the 40s during the time

“juniors” meant a particular size range and style that went to a specific

age-group, it began in 1930s of course junior is still a size range today but it began being a known style range during the 30s and 40s.

Teenage girls often had spectators or saddle shoes, and a pair of sandals or wedges to wear in the summer (By wedge I mean pretty low heeled) Girls would try to stick to one main color scheme throughout their wardrobe to stick to sporty separates (with only a few dresses) to stretch their wardrobes further since it only made sense with rationing in effect.Sweaters were a main detail in the wardrobe they could be pullovers or cardigans, and generally cardigans had pretty buttons (like faux-pearls or glass beads) or embroidery on them. This is more post war, but then fair-isle, and even like Kooky patterns were also popular.A line skirts, made of wool in a bright color or a plaid for winter and fall, and then breezier ones for spring and summer. As for undergarments teens wore girdles and stockings,and slips. During this time period There wasn’t much a distinction between women and teenagers, except that teenagers could choose to dress slightly less formally (depending on just how old they are) if they wished.

Hello, everyone I apologize for not blogging lately but I started school once again

and have been dealing with getting use to all the new classes.

Now I'm back !! So the past interviews I had done had a great turn out

so I decided instead of just blog of the month what if I do a kind of blog of the month

interview to not only talk about how much I enjoy there blog but so everyone can see

why the blogger has such a great blog!! So this month the august

Blogger of the month winner and her birthday just passed Mrs. Dollie Deville from

The Rockabilly Socialite. Her wardrobe and home are a dream!! See for yourself in the interview!!

1.Do you have a style icon? If so do tell!!

My style icon is, and forever will be, Betty Grable. Whether on-screen or off, she always looked polished from head to toe. She also wasn’t afraid to show off what god blessed her with-her amazing legs- and I admire that. While Betty could be the utmost of glamour and class, she still had an easy going, girl next door vibe that other Hollywood starlets of the time didn’t. In my opinion, she truly was the American sweetheart! I credit her role in The Pinup Girl for starting my obsession with novelty print playsuits, especially in yellow, as she wore a few in that role.

I also like the style of Jayne Mansfield. I love that Jayne knew how to use her curves to her advantage. As the original sweater girl, I credit her with my love obsession of tight skirts and tighter sweaters! We also share the same favorite color: pink! Besides her figure, I also admire her for her brains. She was very smart, but that never got to shine though because people only cared about her looks. I know as a blogger I feel that way sometimes too.

2. What do you like best about yourself?

Looks wise or personality wise?

Well, personality wise I like to think that I am witty and funny, but not everyone seems to think so. I like jokes involving a play on words, and they normally go over everyone’s head. That’s what I like about my fiancé, he has a great sense of humor. We are constantly going back and forth with jokes.

Looks wise, I have to say my smile. I feel that it is my most underrated feature. I always get compliments on my eyes and hair, but never my smile. I had horribly crooked teeth growing up and was teased for it. Eventually I stopped smiling all together and covered my mouth with my hand when I did laugh or smile. In high school I got braces and had them for 3 painful years. So when I finally got them off I was so happy that I haven’t stopped smiling since! Whenever I model the photographer tries to make me do sexy pout-y lip faces and I always hate them. I always prefer pictures when I am smiling big! I always think of Marilyn Monroe in that case. She was told to always wear an innocent smile because you never want to put “sexy on sexy”, it was just too much to have a sexy expression and figure. I live by that rule to this day!

3. At the moment what is your favorite singer/band??

This is the hardest question! Music plays a huge role in my life, so it is hard to pick only one. At the moment, I would have to say JD McPherson. I got his record at Viva Las Vegas last year and fell in love instantly. He is playing at Viva Las Vegas this year so I listen to his record and watch his live performances online to get pumped up for next year. If anyone wants more info on him and his music, I did a CD review on his album and posted some videos of him.

4. Name a blog your fond of.

A lot! Yours is just one! But, today I will just talk about Lilvintagehomemaker.blogspot.com. I wish I could be as great of a Lil Vintage Homemaker as Reagan is! She is a fantastic sewer and baker! Check her blog out!

5.What fascinates you the most from the past eras??

How well things were made! From clothing to house wares, things were just made better. I believe the companies took more pride in their products and built things to last. Now-a-days corners are cut and things are made as cheaply as possible and it shows. Now when you buy modern clothing from monster department stores the seams are cut so tightly they are ripping apart all the time, the thread is thin and breaks, and the buttons always fall off! And forget washing those things. The minute you do it’s done for! But 50+ years later we are still wearing vintage! The fabric back then was just made better, the colors are stronger, and the buttons were sewed on for dear life! The same with house wares. Our 1954 GE fridge is still chugging away, day after day, but our brand new microwave only lasted a few months before it pooped out! So I will gladly pay for an old American made product over a new Chinese made product any day!

6. What was your first vintage piece??

You always remember your first, don’t you? I was 18, and up to that point I was only wearing reproduction, but I knew I wanted to get into vintage collecting. My first real vintage piece was a blue and white circle skirt sun dress that buttoned down the front with the prettiest blue buttons. I found it on ebay and wanted it for my first ever Viva Las Vegas car show. I got into a bidding war with someone in Japan and in retrospect, spent way too much on it. I wore it to the car show with the biggest blue crinoline you have ever seen! I loved it! It changed my life forever and now I am hooked. I still have that dress and still love it!

7.What is your favorite way to style your hair??

I have a standard wet set pattern I use to create all of my hairstyles. I find that wearing my hair down is the most flattering for me, but up in the front and down in the back is also suitable. I don’t think my hair looks very good up. So my favorite way to wear it is my “Jayne Mansfield style”:

Strait on the top/crown with fluffy curls framing the face and at the bottom, with major backcombing in the “bang” area, or my “Betty Grable style”:

Big victory rolls in front with soft fluffy curls in the back, with a cute little bow, or my “Wilde Twins style”:

Soft curls in the back, with the “bangs” in a teased swoop up from the face and back into a curl, with the sides up in combs.

Today my little cousin was over and I decied to show her off in

a kids dress I had bought but the bust was to tight ....darn...but it fit her swell

so I deiced to show her in it I love the chevron stripes on it!! My outfit is

and the skirt is taffeta from the 50's...Oh and I cut my hair short Sunday my aunt decided she was tired of it looking the same (I miss my hair now lol)

Hello everyone, I hope everyone enjoyed all the interviews from last week now

I'm on to post my small trip to Hollywood.

On the Monday of my birthday my family visited me from LA and we eat together then had ice cream cake and then later went out to the drive in. Then on Wednesday I went to Hollywood and visited a museum and

a few vintage shops!! Now I took so many pictures I wanted to share with you of the museum I deiced to make it 2 posts !!

Today we have came to an end of the interviews and I deiced to

interview someone that has known me my whole life and has inspired me everyday

my older sister. she will probably hate all the pics I post but there my favorites so enjoy.

If you could have lived in another era what era would it be??

It would have to be the 1950's reason being that everything was much better there weren't as many electronics and many things that you don't need. People were more self sufficient and things were nicer also especially the clothes!!

What was your first vintage piece??

My first piece was when I was 4 years old it was a dress from the 50's my mom use to put on me they say it had belong to my great aunt's daughter.

Who is you favorite designer from the past and why?

My favorite designer from the by gone years would have to be Jacques Fath he was the one that sarted the "new look" he was daring at the time but still contemporary.

Name a blog your fond of.

Well actually I'm going to say my younger sisters because I don't blog or really see other blogs.

What fascinates you the most from the past eras??

The makeup I'm a coming out makeup artist and love to do different makeup looks from the 1900s-1960's my idol is Maximilian Faktorowicz aka Max Factor his creation of makeup I think is the best creation for every women.

What is your favorite way to style your hair??

Well to style my hair I usually like to have it set in pin curls if I'm in a hurry I do a quick page boy.

What do you like best about yourself?

I don't know what to say as for this question I guess my attitude the way I am always cheerful and I try to help other people the best that I can.

My great aunt she was a style icon to me she was a great person and in the 50's the best rockabilly dame you could meet!!

I hope everyone enjoyed Andi's interview =) now where on to today's interview with the lovely Solanah.

Here blog is pretty much amazing she has a vary swanky wardrobe, regularly inspiring posts and mixes it up often which is a plus in my book!! Her blog is one of the ones that I can't wait to show up on my blogger dashboard!!

If you could have lived in another era what era would it be??

Probably the 1950s, not just for the clothing, but because it had so many modern conveniences. But mostly for the clothes ;)

What was your first vintage piece??

I don't know my very first, but when I was younger my Aunt, http://lifeinapinkhouse.blogspot.com/, used to give me her vintage hand-me-downs, because she wore vintage too. So I had all these 40s and 50s dresses for dress up, which eventually found their way into my closet. I still have one dress from that little collection, a 1940s linen frock with pink and black circles on the print.

Who is you favorite designer from the past and why?

Coco Chanel, she did so much not just for fashion, but for personal style. When she started out, she was the odd duck, but eventually became a leader of style and fashion. Some of her original designs are classics and still stand strong today, like the cardigan for women, little black dress, two toned shoes, and costume jewelry.

Name a blog your fond of.

But there are so many! Well, since you've already interviewed some of my favorite vintage ladies, I suppose I can mention this blog which I keep going back to:

Her photography is fantastic, and her travels really make me want to Iceland! She just captures everything so beautifully, something I'm still trying to do on my own blog.

What fascinates you the most from the past eras??

Well something I really envy about past eras compared to now is the amount of attractiveness in everyday things. Everything was pretty: sewing machines, doorknobs, radios, even toilet paper! (I'm on a pink toilet paper obsession right now, hehe).

What is your favorite way to style your hair??

Pin curls are my weapon of choice. Having thick hair, I do them every other night, and they hold well. Then it's usually just a hat or comb, or nothing at all!

What do you like best about yourself?

My contradictions. I'm a pices, which is two fishies swimming in different directions, so I'm always full of opposites. Sometimes I hate it, sometimes I love it (seee?!), but it keeps things interesting, and pushes me to explore things I wouldn't, if I had a taste for only one type of thing.

Do you have a style icon?? If so please so do tell!!

I think I take most of my style inspiration from other vintage bloggers, old photos, and family members. I could never choose just one!

Interview: Andi B. Goode

Hello everyone!! I hope you all have enjoyed the interviews so far!!

Today I'll be interviewing Andi from Andi B. Goode her blog is really cute and her vintage style is unique from the 1930-1960s. Now on to her interview....

If you could have lived in another era what era would it be??

To be honest, I'm happy I was born when I was (1986, for reference). The world isn't perfect now – in many ways it's far from it - but it never has been. For one thing I can't imagine having less freedom as a woman not to mention other groups of people (but I won't get too political) and, of course, I love my mod cons. That's not to say there aren't certain aspects of the past that I don't long for (obviously!) but they're mainly superficial and to do with the aesthetics of certain eras – trust me, if I was given a time machine (and a guarantee I could get back home easily enough) I'd go on the biggest shopping spree you could imagine.

What was your first vintage piece??

The first dress I ever consciously bought as vintage was this one which I got at a Buffalo Exhchange, when I was in California, staying with a friend for a couple of weeks.

Who is you favorite designer from the past and why?

I'm not sure that I have one – just as I don't spend a lot of time following high fashion with current trends, I can't admit to knowing much about fashion designers past. I absolutely adore Horrockses dresses, though. I have the book that V&A put out and, every so often, I like to take it out and pore over the pages. I could nearly cry at how gorgeous these off-the-rack dresses were – they had some really talented textile designers working for them who created absolutely divine fabrics.

Name a blog your fond of.

Oh gosh, just one? Off the top of my head, I'll say Fashion Forestry – fashionforestry.blogspot.com/ - I love Nicole's style and how she can take so many different things and blend them together to create something unique.

What fascinates you the most from the past eras??

I think it might be the assumption that all of the mod cons we have are all 100% new and I love being surprised when I realise something is a lot older than I thought it was. A recent example is that the first ever 'answer machine' was initially invented in 1898 and, while it only laid the groundwork for what we now have, it just really fascinated me. Apparently they weren't commercially successful until about 1960, though. It doesn't even have to be something electrical, though. I just love that feeling of...discovery, I guess.

What is your favorite way to style your hair??

I definitely prefer my hair when it's set and, even though I set it the same way all the time, I sometimes do different things with it. I generally prefer it down, though, and with either a little rolled fringe or something and a ribbon or a flower.

What do you like best about yourself?

I suppose that I don't think I've ever really let what other people thought get in the way of expressing myself through my style. To some degree, I've probably cared about how others perceive me (and sometimes still do), but generally it's something I've worked against, if that makes sense. I don't want to think that I've ever compromised my own vision of how I want to present myself to the world because of someone else.

Do you have a style icon?? If so do tell!!

You know, I'm not sure that I do! I don't think there's one person who I look to for inspiration all the time but I'm constantly inspired by so many different things – other bloggers, vintage snapshots of everyday women, movies (both classic and new set in the past), street fashion and, occasionally, high fashion (like Lena Hoschek's designs). So, while there are definitely a lot of people whose style I adore, I couldn't pick just one as a style icon. I think anyone who is brave enough to express who they are has my vote.

Casey from Caseys Elegant Musings.!! Her blog has everything sewing,inspiration,tutorials,and so much more!! So without further a do here is Caseys interview.

If you could have lived in another era what era would it be??

Well, I’m not sure I’d want to really leave the 21st century entirely (I love my modern conveniences—like air conditioning and my computer—too much! lol.), but if I had a time machine I’d go back to the mid 40s. I love the clothing from that portion of the decade and would have the best fun raiding a few shops for cute shoes, dresses and hats! Plus I’d probably stop by a department store to stock up at the pattern counter. Of course I’d also need to have a magic time machine that deals with making my currency relevant to the age! (Don’t want to fork over any bills that say 2011 on them! lol.)

What was your first vintage piece??

Hm... I’ve been collecting vintage for so long I can’t really remember what it was. hehe. So instead I’ll name my favorite piece I have right now: the beautiful vintage silk kimono I bought before I got married . We had a bit of a Japanese/vintage theme to the wedding, so it was my dream to buy an old kimono to wear that morning while I was getting ready. After months and months of searching I finally scored a gorgeous piece on Ebay It’s beautiful and one of my prize possessions.

Who is you favorite designer from the past and why?

I always say this, but it’s so true: I admire Claire McCardell’s aesthetic so much. Her sportswear she designed in the 40s and 50s is gorgeous. Having recently in the past year been able to try on a Claire McCardell dress (sadly, a bit too big for me—otherwise I would have snatched it up!), I can see why to this day her legacy of comfortable and pretty clothes is legendary. I also really admire the Russian émigré designer Valentina (her designing career spanned the 20s through the 50s); she dressed a lot of glamorous socialites and movie stars of the era and had impeccable sense of elegance and a flair for the dramatic.

Name a blog your fond of.

Picking just one can be so hard! Right now I’m quite enjoying the Bright Young Twins blog (http://brightyoungtwins.blogspot.com/ ). Those gals have vintage style down to a T (I want to raid their closets!) and I love seeing what new things they post.

What fascinates you the most from the past eras??

Clothing. It’s a window into the social perceptions and morals of any era and says a lot about the overall mood of the times and generation designing it as well. As a history geek, clothing is a bit of a surface peek into the deeper currents that run through any era.

What is your favorite way to style your hair??

It varies so much from week-to-week! Last week I was really loving a high 50s inspired ponytail with a bit of a pomp or faux bang in the front. Before that I was curling my hair like crazy. This week I’m quite enamored with braids of various sorts; especially ones that I can wrap around my head or at the back of my neck to keep the hair out of the way.

What do you like best about yourself?

This is always a weird question for me—I never know what to say! lol. I would have to say my ability to sew. It’s not a physical trait, but is a skill I have developed over the years and utterly adore. Plus I really enjoy sharing that love and discovery of sewing with others. It also helps feed my appetite for vintage-style clothing! Finding quality vintage is becoming a bit harder every year and being able to tailor clothes to my size and needs using older patterns is a great way to imitate some of the vintage pieces I love but can’t find or afford.

Do you have a style icon?? If so do tell!!

Oooh—another tough one! My mom first and foremost: she taught me the value of dressing properly and well from an early age (on a teeny budget too!). Some of the ladies I’ve come to know through their blogs, like Solanah (http://vixenvintage.blogspot.com/ ), Fleur de Guerre (http://www.diaryofavintagegirl.com/ ), and Quincy (http://qsdaydream.blogspot.com/ ), are also style icons for me. I love when “everyday gals” take a style or look and make it their own, to fit with their lifestyle. To me it’s so much more inspiring than fashion spreads!

Interview: Sweetheart of the Rodeo

Today I'll be interviewing Dakota from Sweetheart of the rodeo
her blog is based on things from the past and her style is impeccable she always has some great finds from the 1900s-1950s. I think everyone should take a look at her blog and you will find it to be quite delightful. Now on to the interview.

*If you could have lived in another era what era would it be??*

I think I'd have to choose the early to mid 1930s; it was a time of great hardship, with the Depression, but also of triumph of the human spirit, and of course incredibly glamorous fashions! I daydream all the time about being a girl back then, running off to become a chorus girl on Broadway, or maybe joining a traveling circus.

*What was your first vintage piece??*

A 1950s aqua colored squaredancing or "squaw" dress; it's covered in ric-rac and ribbons with a great big circle skirt. My mother bought it for me when we were in Santa Fe, New Mexico when I was 15. From the moment I tried it on, it fit me like a glove, and its nipped in waist and full skirt suited my figure like no modern clothes ever had. Its vibrant vintage western look also just matched my personality perfectly. That was the "gateway" dress! (Oh, and I still have it, and wear it all the time!)

*Who is you favorite designer from the past and why? *

I adore Elsa Schiaparelli-- she made such interesting, surrealist clothes! She was truly an innovative designer with such a clever and unique point of view. I also admire Nudie Cohn, for making all those beautiful sequined suits, and Lady Duff Gordon, who made the most decadent and gorgeously detailed gowns in the 1900s and 1910s under the "Lucile" label.

*Name a blog your fond of.*

Honestly, I have so many favorites, I'd feel mean if I picked just one ;) But yours is really wonderful... I wish I'd been half as stylish as you when I was 15!!

*What fascinates you the most from the past eras??*

The aesthetics of the past just seem so much more alluring to me. Even simple house dresses and little household knick-knacks were so beautifully designed! Modern designs just lack soul and ingenuity to me. I also think that before TV, internet, malls, and all our modern conveniences, folks tended to be a little more genuine, creative, and resourceful, which I admire greatly.

*What is your favorite way to style your hair??*

I'm awfully fond of a good old bouffant! Be it sleek and elegant like Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" or wildly glamourous like Brigitte Bardot's, "the higher the hair, the closer to God" is my mantra, haha! Unfortunately I recently got my wait-length locks hacked off into a bob, so it'll be a while 'til I can reach for the teasing comb and Aquanet again.

*What do you like best about yourself?*

I'm really really good at finding super cheap vintage. I very rarely pay over $10 for a piece of vintage, and on this budget I've found wonderful pieces from the Edwardian era through the '50s! It's quite the skill ;)

*Do you have a style icon?? If so do tell!!*

I am very inspired by the ladies of old time country music; gals like Maybelle and Sara Carter, Patsy Montana, June Carter, Wanda Jackson, and Loretta Lynn influence me not only with their music, but also with their unabashedly down-home country girl looks. And when I feel like getting all dolled up, I look to my favorite golden era actresses for inspiration, like Claudette Colbert, Ruby Keeler, Joan Crawford and Elizabeth Taylor.

I hope you all enjoyed Quincy's interview!! Today I'll be interviewing Miss Amethyst from The Pink Retro Powder Room. This gal's blog is such a delight its full of vintage hairstyle tutorials and beauty too, adorable outfits, and great finds, plus she young too!! Now off to the interview !!

If you could have lived in another era what era would it be??

As much as I love the 1940's , I would say 1950's thru the very early 1960's. I tend to gravitate to the petticoats, pearled cardigans, and cat eye glasses.

What was your first vintage piece??

My very first vintage piece was when I was a baby. A1950's yellow infant outfit set. It was chiffon dress with a little jacket and a bonnet. Its so adorable, in fact I still have it!!

Who is you favorite designer from the past and why?

Claire McCardell !!

Why well she was the first to create the ' All American Look'. Her clothes are just timeless, it reminds me of what Doris Day and Grace Kelly would wear .I came across a pair of green elegant gloves that I had to buy, and I looked at the tags and it was a original Claire McCardell vintage 50's gloves!!! I think its pretty neat that she from the area I am from, and we have the same birthday months ( May!)

I love all the blogs that I follow but you are the one of the couple that I jump first to!

What fascinates you the most from the past eras??

What makes me gravitate to the past is that everything was so well made! Boys were boys, clean cut and well good maners . Girls dressed so pretty everyday, cute sun dresses/ cocktail dresses, with gloves and hats, the perfect dazzling earrings and purse to match!! I just wish we would see more of that!

What is your favorite way to style your hair??

I go thru so many styles / hair cuts. My favorite way ( and its really easy) is in a roller set that has been combed out and one side is gently pined for a instant 50's look. But when I am in a rush and I want more of a 40's look I do a reverse victory roll in the other side with a cute vintage hair comb!

What do you like best about yourself?

My hair, my eyebrows, and my style ha ha!

If you could have lived in another ear what era would it be??

I would have to say the late 1950's to early 1960's. I love the fashions, but also Elvis would be alive and in his prime :o)

What was your first vintage piece??

My first vintage piece was a 1950's gingham bathing suit. I got it when I was 9 or 10.. it was way too big, lol.

Who is you favorite designer from the past and why?

Chanel. She was the first to do so many things.

Name a blog your fond of.

Many! To name a few... Casey's Musings, Karla's Closet, Esme and the Laneway and Sweetheart of the Rodeo. There are so many more too :O)

What fascinates you the most from the past eras??

My fascination probably started with movies. I love old movies and movie stars. I also love listening to music from the past. From Billie Holiday to of course Elvis. Lets not forget the fabulous fashions!

What is your favorite way to style your hair??

Short and simple. I really don't do much to my hair, except make sure I have an appointment to get it trimmed every 4 to 6 weeks, hehe. Though sometimes I wish my hair was long so I could do fun vintage styles, like victory rolls.

What do you like best about yourself?

I think I'm kind and thoughtful. I don't like to be mean, so I try not to be.

Do you have a style icon?? If so please so do tell!!

Music Tuesday

This was actually suppose to be on a Monday

but since it was a Holiday its Tuesday. Oh and

I hope you all had a great 4 th of July

my family stayed the whole weekend

and I got to be with my nephew which just turned 8 months!! I

also took my cousin (he's more like a brother) shopping at a few vintage stores he bought a 1940s vintage suit

and a 1950s cardigan.

Now Back to music todays post is on some music I used to actually listen to as a baby, according to my great aunt it was the only thing that would get me to sleep.....

A Junior Dress

I found this whole outfit on ebay....The dress is from the 1940s and I try my best to by teen clothing from the past. The hat is by merrimac hat corp. from the 40s I guess there's a hat museum in Massachusetts that has a display of these hats that's pretty cool to bad its all the way in Massachusetts. The shoes are actually from ebay too I couldn't find any red shoes anywhere so I just bought them online.

Hello everyone!!

Today I went to a estate sale

in Pomona. The House belonged to a

Playmate from the 1960s and A Film producer. The

house was beautiful with art deco furniture and

many knick knacks. Here are a few things

my sister and I found. I woke up late

so I missed some of the good stuff. But here

Hello Everyone!! It's been raining here for the past 2 days

I hate the rain but at least its spring break so I don't have to be at

school!! I found this dvd in my uncle's box of junk

I picked it up and started to watch it.

Its about a small town tv repair man whose former sweetheart is now a movie

star. She marries a bullfighter but he dies the day of there wedding but

later she finds out she is pregnant so her agent doesn't want a

scandal to damage to her career. So she turns to her former

sweetheart for help and he agrees.

Before I start out....I wanted to tell you all something that happened to me today I was at school and I had my saddle shoes on I felt good and then I looked down and saw I had a bright navy sock and a black one to. I started laughing but the most embarrassing part is that the cutest greaser guy told me and I turned really red and started to laugh. Do any of you have any embarrassing high school stories?? Back to topic Ann Blyth was a great actress from the 1940s-1980s she was also a singer she had a vary lovely voice. And look at her eyebrows I know it sounds weird but they are so perfect. She is actually age 82 right now and still looking as lovely as ever !!

A Vary Interesting Find

Hello everyone!! yesterday I was with my family and asked them to take some pictures of a dress I actually bought 2 years ago. It's not a vintage dress although I wish it was. I found it at a store near my house while waiting for my sister to pay for some items she was purchasing. I saw this dress on a clearance rack and actually liked the style mostly the part that it had pockets. I actually had never worn this dress until yesterday so I wanted to share with all of you . Also I wanted to thank all of you for all your lovely comments on my last post and I wanted to welcome all my new followers . I finally reached 100 follower WOO-HOO!! Oh and I got a new camera I hope you all noticed I've been saving for about 6 months for it.

Gidget, The Little Girl With Big Ideas........I love Gidget movies.The first version stars Sandra Dee and James Darren. Its about a girl who is different than all the rest shes a bit more tomboy than all her friends. Shortly after she meets a surfer quickly becomes infatuated with him, but he doesn't show any interest. I think the first one is the keenest but there also is Gidget Goes Hawaiian, Gidget Goes to Rome, and a T.V. series and it keeps going. I have seen the tv series before it still comes out but I like the movies more. I also had a question does anyone think its weird that I prefer teen trends from the 1940s and 1950s than the ones from the current time??

Hello, Lovely Followers!!
So yesterday I came home from the Farmers Market to find two boxes in my room. I opened them and in one came a lovely hat and a pair of earrings from a giveaway I won over at Bombshell Bettie's Vintage !! Then I open the second box and it was a 1940s tennis/play suit it comes with the skirt but it needs some work but I got it for a bargain but its still super keen!!. Anyways how is your weekend so far?? Today I'm going to a show with my sister and tomorrow I'm going to LA with my aunt. I'm on the process of convincing my aunt into going to Hollywood but It's a pretty difficult process. I live about 45 minutes away from LA it's not as far as it may sound. And here is a small outfit post on what I was wearing yesterday to the Farmers Market. Enjoy Dearies!!

These are a few techniques I have learned from my mom her herself dosen’t wear vintage clothing but she’s been a reseller for a while now and I watch her and ask her so many questions (it kind of irritates her lol) But they are helpful. But please remember some fabrics and garments may look washable, but they’re not. It is important to learn how to identify delicate garments. Even some cleanings will 'fail' when cleaned, and may not be saved (tear) . Select pieces carefully, and learn how to work with vintage clothes. It is worth the try!!

Vintage clothing can actually become vary wrinkled after a wash or wearing the piece. Learning how to maintain those wrinkles is the best way to keep that garment as spiffy as possible.

Washing- Clothing that tailored or is delicate should be dry cleaned. Also avoid washing dark colors or shiny rayons and pieces with loose or raveling seam allowances anywhere on the garment. First thing is test a small piece of the fabric. It is also important to check the lining, and may be easier if the piece goes to the dry cleaners.

1.For hand washing cold water and baby shampoo should be used wash in a bowl or bucket then hand the dripping wet dress there. Rinse out the soap after hand washing and hang up the garment to dip dry.
2.If your using a washing machine then select a gentle cycle and cold water. You should test your machine with a piece that is simple. To make sure that the speed isn’t hard on the fabric and seams. You also may want to pull it out before the spin cycle, because this can make tight wrinkles in the fabric. Then do the same last step as hand washing.

Mostly because I've watched it since I was a toddler!! It's about a young women who pretends to be a 12 yr. old to get home to Iowa and on her way there she meets a Army Major and falls in love with him.

I promised an outfit post so here it is. I got a haircut everyone (tear tear) my aunt cut it and cut it to my collar bone which I find to short oh well. I set it last night though and I still can do my victory rolls though YA!! I'm on my way to a family party so I just wore something simple.

Hello Dearies,
Today's post is a review on MAC's Pro Longwear Foundation and Concealer I picked these up about a month ago and I am vary satisfied with the product !! I wear the foundation once an a while but I do wear the concealer vary often. The Pro longwear foundation doesn't have a smell like studio fix, but I think studio fix has more coverage. Pro longwear is more for oily and studio fix is more for dry skin. But the big thing about the pro longwear is that it is easier to blend and takes a bit longer to set so you could blend it in perfectly before it dries so this means it doesn't get streaky because it dries.

             Next on the list is the concealer....It comes in a pump like the foundation but it squirts out to much product. But it apply's on smoothly and it doesn't look cakey. Its best for oily and normal skin than dry skin though. I hope you enjoyed my review =)

Me and my best friend were watching it and couldn't stop laughing. Of course most movies with Lucy will make you laugh. That Great Red Shade!

So last night I went to eat at TGI fridays with some friends and I noticed the many different shades of red lipstick around the room. This gave me the idea to create a post on different red lipsticks and buy shade and price. Some of you might know my sister is a make up artist so I enjoy all the different shades and brands she has =) and these are my opinions I hope they help...So lets get started!

Number 1 - The many favorites around blogs M.A.C Ruby Woo this color is great on and matte which is a
plus!(The only flaw is that it seems to diminish around the day on the top of the bottom lip.) price-($14.00) and Russian Red by M.A.C also this is a great dark red matte shade its long lasting and rich. I also have noticed that this one goes with many skin tones. price-($14.00)

Number 2- Besame cosmetics Red velvet I have seen this a lot on girls and have used it a few times its a deep natural red and it has a vary retro look in the packaging also Besame Red this one is a bit more orange than red velvet but also looks great on they both are also long lasting. price- set($35.00) price-($22.00)

Number 3- My favorite Julie Hewett Noir Collection!!For starters there Matte, Moist applying, and Long lasting. Femme noir , Belle noir, and Rouge noir are my personal favorites. They all are great shades and they have a vary vintage feel to them! price ($22.00) ea.

Number 4- For the recessionista Revlon Really Red it is a great matte color for a drugstore brand is long lasting and looks great!! price ($7.99)

Today I watched the movie On Moonlight Bay......Doris Day stars in it. It is about a tomboy that falls in love with a college boy. But her dad doesn't like him for her so she goes throughout the film thinking of ways to get him to like him.

So yesterday I had mentioned that I had gone shopping and today I decided to do a outfit post. The wiggle skirt my sister had bought for herself that she didn't try it on or saw that the tag said small.....fit me! But I felt bad so I bought her some thai food earlier today. Also I bought a dress from the 1950s but it is to big for me I will post up the pictures tomorrow I repaired it today it had two holes and I fixed it up so its ready to go. I know why would you buy a dress that was to big for you but it was a bargain and I wanted a project =)

Hi everyone, I'm sorry for not posting but I got really sick on Sunday....I feel some what better now and I decided to post a movie I watched yesterday....Its called The Magic of Ordinary Days. Its a story about a young women whose father sends her off to get married. She doesn't know the guy but slowly falls in love with him.She also makes friends with two asian girls from a refuge camp. I really like the costumes of the movie also. I hope you enjoy the pictures. Im also going to post my new finds tomorrow and I'm really sorry for not posting lately.

Hello everyone!! Well in my last post I promise to right about the history on the hats I found. Last Thursday I went to an estate sale with my mom. There I meet an elderly women named Joan she was born in 1935. The location wasn't exactly at a house it was at a shop she had bought in the 1980s were she stored her moms old stuff.She thought it was interesting that for my age I liked old things. Her mother had worked as a clown and worked on t.v.( there were a lot of clown stuff) she also would go to children hospitals. I also meet her best friend who use to choreography for movies. Joan had a lot of interesting stories and things I had a blast she let me look around at everything and I found some great things. Stay tune for the next post Im working on a velvet skirt out of an old sleep gown =)

Sorry everyone that this cant be a long post I am on my way to my aunts house (family emergency). I just came back from a marvelous estate sale and I wanted to show everyone some hats I found(but I think my mom is posting them in her store because I have enough according to her boo!! ). The women that was selling was vary kind her mother was from a tv show in the 50s I don't remember the name but she had all her mothers things and hers (she was born in 1935). I will talk about the sell in my next post promise!!

Happy late Thanksgiving!!This is the outfit I wore yesterday for thanksgiving.....I had a great thanksgiving hope all of you did to!! I helped my mom in the kitchen and I also made cheesecake I found the recipe in the book my aunt gave me. Did any of you cook something special? I set my hair the night before and it got a nice wave in it. I liked how it came out but I couldn't get a good picture of it =(.

Winter is Here

Winter time is one of my favorites other than my skin gets dry so i have to pack on that lotion and cold cream and carry chapstick. It doesn't snow where I live the snow is about 40 mins. away in the mountains. But I love drinking hot cocoa and get in a blanket and watching old movies with the family. Anyway on Monday I went antique and thrift store shopping it was a blast. I made a wish list when I got home, I wanted to share it. I already have a beret but that one is adorable and I really like the sweaters. The overalls are so cute now its just the matter of finding some similar. I hope you liked the list!!

I like cooking and last night my aunt was cleaning her apartment a winter cleaning hehehehe. Before she moved to were she is now she had rented another apartment. Which was home to two elderly sisters they had traveled around the world and as they grew older they decided to leave to Europe. They knew my aunt so they decided to leave her everything they couldn't carry. so last night I was looking through my aunts book case and saw an old culinary textbook from the 50s I picked it up and saw all the recipes. I asked he about it she said I could take it because she doesn't like to cook. I was so excited she also gave me some more cooking tools which I will show you pictures of.

Most of the time when I go thrift store shopping it is to go looking for clothes. On Monday I went to Redlands with my sister to see her friend. On are way back I kept bugging her and her boyfriend to stop at the thrift store. So they decided to go, in redlands there are a lot of farms and old houses it has a nice country feel hehehe. So in the thrift shop they still have a lot of old things. They even had little booths inside that have antiques and vintage clothing sold by other people. I even saw a Howdy Doody doll so we looked around and bought somethings but we came across a early 1960s Console radio and turntable. We usually don't buy furniture but we thought it was pretty cool so we took it with us. It was a hassle getting it into the car though I think the owners of the shop thought we were nuts hahaha but we got it in. When we got home I cleaned it up and now we have to get a few things to fix it but the record player works well so now I can listen to all my records =).

Have you ever caught yourself watching a nifty movie but your trade of thought is kind of going towards the love stars hair or the really pretty dress shes wearing? Me and me best friend had a movie night yesterday and were watching old movies but we couldn't stop looking at Ester Williams hair in Bathing Beauty. I really like her movies and this one of my favorites she did so I thought I would write a post on it
it starred: Ester Williams (of course) Red Skelton,Basil Rathbone, and Bill Goodwin
Its about a song writer that is planning on marrying a college swimming instructor but a man that already hired him one let home get married because it will ruin his plans for a show he is planning. So he get in between them and they go separate ways. But the writer notice he cant live without her so he enrolls in an all girls college to get here back. The rest I'll let you find out once you see the film =)

Ive been in school now for a couple of weeks ugg...school but i didnt really have a chance to write about what i did on my summer vacations my other computer got a virus so i didn't get a chance to but now i can.I went many times to different vintage shops and me and my sister found a lot of great things.Which I will be posting a lot of new outfits i found but for now im going to post a couple of previews of the items.

in the afternoon i got see the movie peggy sue got married its a movie i hve seen so many times already but one more time wouldn't hurt right. its about a woman that is at her high school reunion and faints. when she faints she goes back in time but she has the chance to change her future but ends up making the same choices as before. My favorite part of this movie is when she sees her little sister again though she telling her how they shouldn't stop talking ever again and she tells her teenagers are weird and your the weirdest haha.

Friday Actor of the day

This is a new segment im adding to the blog the actor of the day there were so many great actors back then there are also good actors today but none can compare to the ones back then.Today's actor of the day is Carole Lombard...Carole was an actor isn't she lucky she was married William Powell and then later got married with Clark Gable. My favorite movie she was in was my man godfrey. When I watch this movie I only could think of was how pretty she was. it also reminded me of my great anut she used to have a lot and I mean a lot of magazines from the 1930s-1970s she had them all in her room in the closet and I remember looking through all her things and she had a poster of Carole it was really pretty and in great condition but now that she passed away her daughter took all her belongings.

Spring yes!! now I could wear my skirts and dresses......I took a couple of pictures of the outdoors now there not photography well no even close but I wanted to show everyone the flowers that are blooming to turn into fruit and the ones that are to show there beauty and great fragrances. Oh and a funny picture of my dog Phantom. Im excited tomorrow I get to cut my hair finally now I'll be able to do more hairstyle right now I do victory rolls and pin curl my hair but because of the length it does not come out like I would want it to. Cat eye Glasses

I apologize for not writing in so long but the other day in the mail I finally got some glasses Ive been waiting for 4 cat eye glasses I bought on shopgoodwill.com. I was so excited I knew I had to post them up I didnt get to take a picture of the other three because I took them so I could get them in the lenses I need. Right now Im also working on a 1950s shirt its from a modern pattern and its going to be zebra and black Im almost done I cant wait to see the result!!
